About Gangotri, India Holiday Packages

The sleepy little town of Gangotri is located in the Uttarkashi district of the state of Uttarkhand in India. Gangotri is located It is on the Greater Himalayan Range at a height of 3,042 meters above sea level. According to what the Hindu mythology says about Gangotri is that Goddess Ganga, who was the daughter of heaven had taken the form of a river, in order to absolve the sins incurred by the predecessors of King Bhagirath, who did severe penance for several centuries. Ganga was supposed to clean the ashes of the ancestors and thereby provide them salvation after doing so. In order to minimize the impact of her fall Lord Shiva took Ganga into his matted locks.
